Celebrating Colorado Pollinator Month – One Plant at a Time

June is Colorado Pollinator Month

In honor of Governor Polis’s official proclamation declaring June as Pollinator Month in Colorado, Frasier residents, team members, and friends rolled up their sleeves for a special garden celebration—affectionately themed “Come Pull a Weed!” We were thrilled that Colorado First Gentleman Marlon Reis was on hand to help us celebrate and offer some great information on Colorado pollinators.

But this wasn’t just any weed-pulling party. It was a joyful tribute to the hard work and vision of the Pollinator Pals—a dedicated group of Frasier residents who have transformed a slice of campus into a vibrant, pollinator-friendly haven. Our garden is proudly part of Boulder’s Pollinator Garden Project, which promotes native and naturalized pollinator habitats throughout the city.

From blooming currants and chokecherries to nectar-rich wildflowers, more than 100 Colorado-native plants now thrive in Frasier’s garden. These plants not only support local bees and butterflies, but also provide food for birds—creating a thriving, biodiverse environment right outside our doors. Frasier’s approach to the garden is as thoughtful as it is beautiful.

“We don’t use pesticides,” explains resident and Pollina

Manager Janet Chu. “We’re careful to protect the pollinators, and that means letting the natural ecosystem do its job. Leaves are left in the fall to compost and nourish the soil, and we use drip irrigation sparingly—just for the newer plants.”

Janet and her fellow Pollinator Pals even grow native seedlings for the City of Boulder to plant elsewhere—making Frasier’s impact on our pollinator population reach far beyond campus.

This celebration was a chance not only to weed and water, but also to reflect on how even small actions—like planting a native flower or skipping chemical sprays—can help protect our planet’s most essential workers.

So, here’s to the bees, the butterflies, and the incredible humans who care for them. Long may they buzz.
